How to Fix Gel Pens

When gel pens actually work, they are very nice writing utensils; they write smoothly, and their ink is denser than that of traditional pens. Gel pens also come in a variety of light colors, which you can use to write on dark paper. Unfortunately, these pens seem to run out of ink more quickly than other pens, and without warning. If your pen still appears to have ink, however, you can use a few household tools to try to increase the ink pressure and get more life out of your pen.

Instructions

    • 1

Disassemble your pen to remove the ink tube. You can usually do this by unscrewing and removing the tip of your pen, then popping out the ink tube.

    • 2

Slice a couple bits of eraser from your larger eraser. These eraser bits should be about 1/2 inch long, and narrow enough to fit inside your ink tube.

    • 3

Using your long object, push the eraser bits inside of your ink tube. Push slowly, and only a little bit at a time.

    • 4

Test your pen out on a bit of scrap paper. Push your erasers deeper inside if the pen still doesn't write.

    • 5

Reassemble the pen, or just use the ink tube to write.
