Lightbulb Projects

Lightbulb recycling is a growing hobby among adults and children. From a kid-friendly Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer project to a crafty witch project, use your imagination to make these impressive light bulbs crafts. A few burned-out light bulbs and a quick trip to your local craft store is all you need to get started showing off your artistic skills.
  1. Reindeer

    • Make a Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer using an old lightbulb, brown acrylic paint, a small red pompom, small googly eyes, brown pipe cleaners, black paint or permanent marker, craft glue, rubbing alcohol and glitter glue (optional). Clean the bulb with rubbing alcohol and paint the entire bulb with the brown acrylic paint. Use two or three coats of paint to make it thick and let it dry completely. Attach the antlers to the skinny end of the light bulb using the brown pipe cleaners. Wrap the pipe cleaners around the top of the lightbulb and apply glue to keep them in place. Glue the googly eyes and the red pompom underneath the eyes on the larger part of the lightbulb. Use the black paint or marker to paint a mouth under the nose. Dab some of the glitter glue on the top of red pompom nose to make it shine. You can also take a piece of craft wire and attach it to the top of the reindeer to make this bulb an ornament for your Christmas tree.

    Penguin

    • Create a penguin ornament by painting a lightbulb with white paint. Go back over the entire bulb with black paint, leaving the center of the bulb white for the penguin's stomach. Glue two googly eyes at the top of the lightbulb. Use orange or gold felt to make the penguin's feet and beak. Hot glue the felt to the lightbulb and attach a ribbon around the top so you can hang it up.

    Witch

    • Recycle a burned out lightbulb to make a witch project using green and black acrylic paint, gray curly doll's hair, small googly eyes, black felt, scissors, tacky glue, permanent red marker, paintbrushes and a light bulb. Paint the entire lightbulb with green paint and let it dry. Once dry, stand the bulb skinny end up and paint a black cape around the bulb. Glue the googly eyes on the bulb, and use the black paint for the eyes and nose. Draw a mouth on the witch using the red permanent marker. Glue the curly hair on the skinny end of the bulb above the eyes. Cut a piece of the black felt and roll it in a cone shape, then glue it to the top of the hair for the witch's hat.
