Stimulate the sense of touch by creating art of different textures that are pleasing to touch and feel. Make textured collages using a variety of materials. Use rough sandpaper, different types of metals or plastic lids. Mix rough objects with smooth or soft objects, such as smooth buttons, cotton balls or feathers. Explore the different textures of paint by mixing paint with other substances. Mix a small amount of corn syrup into paint to make it shiny. Salt will make paint sparkle, sugar will make paint grainy and sand will make paint gritty.
Allow music to inspire you as you paint by creating an audio-sensory experience. Start with a blank piece of paper or canvas and begin painting or drawing to whatever music you like. Try fast and upbeat, slow and melodious or classical and see how you become inspired as you draw or paint to the time of the music. Put on a mix of eclectic music and do something different each time the song changes, such as switching colors for every song or using different paint strokes. You will end up with an art project that is a visual representation of your music experience.
Create an art project that incorporates smells you find pleasing or that you correlate with warm memories. Sprinkle cinnamon onto a nature collage or add different spices to paints such as a pinch of clove powder, a teaspoon of allspice, juice from a lemon, lime or orange, or a half teaspoon of a liquid flavoring like vanilla or mint. Smells are often incorporated with memories, so you may find yourself becoming inspired in ways you had not expected as you paint with your scented materials.
Create edible art by mixing together substances that can be molded into sculptures and eaten later. Make a thick batch of peanut butter dough using one cup each of peanut butter, white corn syrup and powdered sugar and three cups powdered milk. Blend until thick. Use all the dough to create a grand sculpture, or mold smaller sections of dough into separate designs. After you are done creating, you may eat your edible art. Whip up cream cheese play dough using an eight-ounce package of cream cheese, a half cup of non-fat dry milk and a tablespoon of honey. Blend the mixture well. It will turn into a play dough substance easy for sculpting and creating, but can be placed on crackers later for an edible treat.
