How to Use an Embossing Folder with a Rolling Pin

An embossing folder, or embossing plate, adds a three-dimensional design or impression to paper. The textured or indented pattern lends a personalized, hand-crafted touch to cards, stationary and scrapbook pages. Typically, an embossing machine presses the folder into the paper. But if you don't have an embossing machine, a rolling pin and some elbow grease will do.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the embossing folder on a flat, even surface and open it like a greeting card. The interior of the back panel contains the raised design.

    • 2

Insert a piece of paper or cardstock evenly over the bottom flap of the folder. Close the top flap over the paper.

    • 3

Roll the rolling pin over the embossing folder, in an up and down motion, applying a great deal of pressure. The more pressure you apply, the bolder the design will appear. Roll over the folder repeatedly for a couple of minutes, then remove the freshly embossed paper.
