Who trashed memorial?
On January 6, 2021, a large mob of supporters of then-President Donald Trump attacked the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, in which Trump was defeated by Joe Biden. During the attack, the mob caused extensive damage to the Capitol, including breaking windows, vandalizing walls, and stealing property. They also erected a temporary gallows outside the Capitol, suggesting that they intended to harm members of Congress.
The attack on the Capitol was a direct assault on American democracy and the rule of law. It was also a betrayal of the values and ideals that our country was founded on.
In the aftermath of the attack, it will be important to hold those responsible accountable, and strengthen our democracy to prevent it from happening again. We must also come together as a nation to heal the divisions that have been exacerbated by this event.
