How to Design a Winning Science Fair Display

Your science fair display is the culmination of all the work you've done on your project. It must be attractive, neat and eye-catching so science fair visitors and judges will take the time to read about the results of your experiment.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the science fair rules to find out the size of the exhibit and display board.

    • 2

Create a backboard with three sides out of cardboard or wood. You can also order one from a science supply company. They are usually available in black or white. Cover the backboard with colored cloth or shelving paper if desired.

    • 3

Sketch out the design of the board before attaching anything. Choose what will go in the focal point, or the center of the board.

    • 4

Write out titles and headings neatly in letters legible from three feet away. Print your headers on a printer, cut your letters from construction paper, make them with stencils or use self-stick letters. Choose colors for attached items that stand out from the background. The title should go in the middle of the board.

    • 5

Add illustrations or photographs. Place a model or any three-dimensional material in the front of the board.

    • 6

Attach the following information on the board: the problem, hypothesis, details of the experiment, results and conclusion. Write neatly or print on a printer. Proofread carefully. Erase any pencil guidelines.

    • 7

Display data in a graph or table created by hand or computer. Put the information in order from the left side.
