How to Make a Fake Beard Stick on Your Face

Halloween or theatrical costumes sometimes require facial hair that the actor, or trick-or-treater, can't grow naturally. A fake beard is a substitute that must be adhered directly to the skin. Spirit gum is an adhesive that becomes tacky prior to drying and is often used to hold a fake beard in place. This tackiness is forgiving, allowing you to remove and replace the beard to get it just right.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your face before attempting to attach a fake beard. Make sure to remove any makeup or lotion, which will interfere with the adhesion. Wet a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and rub it over the part of your face you'll stick the beard to, in order to remove any last traces of oils.

Take your beard and position it on your face. Trace the area around your fake beard with an eyeliner pencil. Remove the beard from your face.

    • 3

Apply a light layer of the spirit gum in the outlined area of your face. Tap the glue with your finger tips until it becomes sticky.

    • 4

Place the fake beard on the spirit gum. Use your fingers to smooth the bead over your skin. Remove the beard and replace it twice. This embeds some of the spirit gum into the lace of the beard, which helps with long lasting adhesion.

Place the fake beard a final time and smooth in place with your fingers.
