What is technical rehearsal?

Technical rehearsal refers to a type of rehearsal in theatre, dance, or other performing arts, where the primary focus is on the technical aspects of the production. This includes elements such as lighting, sound, special effects, stage machinery, and set changes.

During technical rehearsal, the technical crew, lighting designers, sound engineers, and stage managers work together to ensure that all the technical elements are functioning properly and are coordinated with the performance.

Technical rehearsals involve testing the equipment, making sure the cues and transitions are precise, and resolving any technical issues that arise. often done under full production conditions with the use of costumes, props, and sets, providing a comprehensive practice run before the performances for the audience.

The purpose of technical rehearsal is to integrate all the technical elements seamlessly with the artistic aspects of the production, enabling the performers, directors, and designers to make necessary adjustments and ensure the overall success and efficiency of the performance.
