Jesus Christ Superstar was filmed at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England. The film was produced by Universal Pictures and released in 1973. It was directed by Norman Jewison and starred Ted Neeley as Jesus Christ, Carl Anderson as Judas Iscariot, and Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene. The film was based on the 1971 rock opera of the same name by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
