Turn your favorite dance playlist into a recital. Create each scene of the recital using different themes of music from your playlist. For example, compile a list of your favorite pop, rock, country, hip hop and show-tune songs and turn these different categories into scenes. Give the players CD's or MP3 players to use as props throughout the recital, and make the cover of your recital programs to look similar to an MP3 player.
Create a recital based around the evolution of high school from the 1950s through today. For example, one classic musical about high school is "Grease." Compile a dance or voice recital using the soundtracks from these different musicals, turning each musical into its own scene. Get outfits for the players that reflect the decade. For example, girls can wear poodle skirts and boys can wear leather jackets.
Pick your favorite one-hit wonders from any decade or genre and create a recital based around those songs. Organize each scene according to time period, such as the 1970s, or by genre, such as classic rock, country or pop. Dress your players in the kinds of clothing that the artists wore during the height of their fame.
Choose one musician who you or your players admire and create a recital based around the discography of that artist. Select a band or solo artist whose career inspires you. Pick your favorite songs from that artist and organize the scenes by album. Or, create scenes by organizing the songs by style. For example, if the artist you have in mind was known for songs with both acoustic and electric guitars, make these two styles into scenes.
