How to Make a Fire Prop for the Stage

You can't always have an authentic roaring fire on stage, but you can make a simple fire prop that is safe for theater use. You can use a wide range of materials for your fake fire, but your stage prop does not have to be highly advanced. Complete the fake fire prop and step off the stage to view it from your audience's standpoint. Determine if your audience can identify it as a fire or if you need to make alterations.

Instructions

      Cut a square of yellow tissue paper 10 inches wide. Cut a piece of orange tissue paper into an 8-inch square, and cut a 6-inch square of red tissue paper.

      Crumple the yellow square of paper into a ball. Wrap the orange square around the yellow ball so the yellow tissue is still visible through the top. Wrap the red tissue around the orange one, leaving an outer coating of the color red, a nice orange lining and a yellow center.

      Paint three 6-inch cardboard tubes dark brown. Allow the tubes to dry and arrange them into a tripod shape. Attach the touching parts of the cardboard tubes together with a hot glue gun.

      Place the balled-up tissue paper on top of the connected cardboard tubes. The yellow of the ball should face upward. Glue it in place with the hot glue gun.
