How to Make Rabbit Pelts

"Oklahoma," "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and "Big River" are just a few of the plays with a scene that takes place in a barn or shack. Faux rabbit pelts are an easy and inexpensive prop for such sets. They can be nailed to a wall or piled on a bench. They are also a good addition to a trapper's costume. These basic instructions can be used to make many types of faux animal pelts. To make a rabbit pelt, choose short brown or gray faux fur or medium-length, white fur.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle of paper 20 inches long and 13 inches wide.

    • 2

Fold the paper in half lenghwise. Draw a line along the fold, stopping 4 inches from each end. Draw a line from each end of this line toward the closest two corners on that side. Stop 2 inches from each corner. This is the basic shape of a rabbit's back and legs with the legs splayed out. There is no head on the pelt.

    • 3

Draw a line for the tail by extending the line on the fold by 2 inches on one end.

    • 4

Make the pattern for the pelt by drawing a rounded shape around the lines on the paper. Draw about 5 inches away from the line of the back and 1 1/2 inches away from the lines of the legs and tail.

    • 5

      Cut out the pattern.

    • 6

Trace the pattern on the cloth side of the faux fur.

    • 7

      Cut out the pelt.
