The earliest thespian performances have been attributed to Ancient Greece. Thespis, a native of Icaria, is known to be the first historical thespian in Ancient Greece. He won a prize at a city-wide festival of Dionysus in Athens (534 BCE) by singing a dithyramb accompanied by a dance.
