Who is the first avatar?

The concept of an "Avatar" is generally associated with the popular Nickelodeon animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, originally airing from 2005 to 2008. Within this series and its universe, the Avatar is a unique individual who has the ability to manipulate all four elements: Air, Water, Earth, and Fire.

In the Avatar series, the first Avatar was named Wan, who emerged over ten thousand years before the events of the show. Wan was originally a human from a humble background, but he showed a strong connection to the spirit world. Through a series of events, he merged with a powerful spirit named Raava, becoming the first Avatar.

Wan's journey as the Avatar involved learning to master the elements, bridging the gap between the spirit and human worlds, and bringing peace and balance to the world. His story is further explored in the prequel animated series "The Legend of Korra," which takes place several generations after the events of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
