What is attitude toward the chorus during scene in which he delivers his edict

During the scene where Oedipus delivers his edict, the chorus' attitude toward him is one of respect, awe, and obedience. They believe that he is wise, powerful, and capable of defeating the plague that has befallen Thebes. They are also aware that he is a just and righteous ruler, and that he would not act in a way that would harm his people.
