Open a new document and set your margins at 1½ inches on the top, left and right sides. Set your bottom margin at 2 inches. All of the content you enter must fit on one page that can subsequently be trimmed down to 8 inches by 10 inches and affixed to the back of your headshot.
Select an easy-to-read font like Courier, Times New Roman or Bookman. The font size should be no less than 11 pt. Use the same font and black ink throughout your entire resume.
Center your name in caps at the top of the page. To make it stand out, it's permissible to type your name in 14 pt. Directly your name, list your full contact information as well as the name and contact information of your theatrical agent (if you have one). If you have a website that contains photos and performance reviews, include that as well.
Create your first heading at the left margin and title it "Personal Data" in all caps. Under this category, type the following on a single line: "Age:," "Height:," "Weight:," "Hair:," and "Eyes:." Fill in the data after each colon and separate each entry with a semicolon. Example: "Age: 32; Height: 5'9"; Weight: 130; Hair: Red; Eyes: Green." If you sing in addition to being an actor, include an entry for "Vocal" and identify yourself as a soprano, tenor, baritone, etc.
Type your second heading as "Experience." Beneath this, you'll list the roles you've played. These can either be identified in reverse chronological order with your most recent role first or you can create subheadings like "Dramas," "Comedies," "Musicals," or "Children's Theater." State the name of the character you played, the title of the production and the name of the theater company. It's not necessary to list the year of performance.
List any additional talents you have under the heading "Special Skills." Examples include stunt work, martial arts, expertise in different dialects, gymnastics, costume design, makeup and choreography.
Explain any theatrical coursework you've taken under the heading "Education." This is also where you'll identify the schools you attended and the degrees you received.
Add a heading for "Awards." If you have not garnered any awards for your work, you don't need this heading.
Include a heading for "Memberships." This is where you'll list any clubs or actors' unions that you belong to.
Use a paper cutter to trim your resume to 8 inches by 10 inches. Apply a very thin layer of rubber cement to the back of the resume and affix it to the back of your headshot.
