Johnny Depp does not play a role in the "Series of Unfortunate Events" movie.

He did, however, play the role of Willy Wonka in the 2005 film "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which is based on a book by the same author, Lemony Snicket (a pseudonym for Daniel Handler), who also wrote the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books.

The "Series of Unfortunate Events" movie (released in 2004) features Jim Carrey as Count Olaf.
