What is mockumentary?

Mockumentary is a subgenre of film and television that presents fictional events in a documentary format. While the events or characters portrayed are not real, they are presented in a way that is intended to deceive the audience into believing that they are. This can be done through the use of interviews with fake experts or participants, hidden cameras, found footage, or other similar techniques.

Mockumentaries often use humor or satire as their main elements, but they can also be used to explore more serious issues. For example, the documentary "The Office" (2005) uses humor to explore the everyday lives of office workers, while the documentary "Fooled Again!" (2006) uses satire to explore the gullibility of the public.

Mockumentaries have been around since the early days of film, but they became increasingly popular in the 1980s and 1990s. Some of the most famous mockumentaries include "This is Spinal Tap" (1984), "The Blair Witch Project" (1999), and "Borat" (2006).
