Sammy Davis Jr. did not appear in the 1959 production of "Porgy and Bess." Sidney Poitier played the role of Porgy in the 1959 film adaptation, and Dorothy Dandridge played the role of Bess. Sammy Davis Jr. did, however, play the role of Sportin' Life in the 1952 Broadway production of "Porgy and Bess," and he also appeared in the 1959 film "Porgy and Bess" as the character Robbins.
