How do you connect the HDMI digital cable to surround sound?

You cannot directly connect an HDMI cable to surround sound as HDMI cables only carry audio and video signals. For surround sound, you need to use the receiver. Here's how to connect an HDMI digital cable to surround sound using a receiver:

1. HDMI Output to Receiver Input: Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI output port of your TV or Blu-ray player, and the other end to the HDMI input port of your surround sound receiver. Make sure to use an HDMI cable that supports High-Speed (18Gbps) or higher bandwidth.

2. Receiver Output to Speakers: Connect the speaker wires from your surround sound speakers to the corresponding speaker terminals on your receiver. Follow the color-coding or labeling on the receiver and speaker wires to ensure correct connections.

3. Configure Audio Settings: Turn on your TV, receiver, and surround sound speakers. Access the audio settings menu on your TV or receiver. Select the HDMI input that you connected to the receiver as the audio output source.

4. Speaker Configuration: Choose the appropriate speaker configuration that matches your surround sound system. Common configurations include 5.1 (five speakers and one subwoofer), 7.1 (seven speakers and one subwoofer), or 2.1 (two speakers and one subwoofer).

5. Audio Calibration: Some receivers offer an audio calibration feature to optimize sound levels for each speaker. Follow the instructions provided by your receiver to run the audio calibration process.

6. Content Playback: Once the connections and settings are complete, you can play content with surround sound support. Ensure that the content's audio format (e.g., Dolby Digital, DTS) is compatible with your surround sound receiver.

Some newer TV models may have an HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) port that allows you to send audio from the TV's internal apps to the surround sound receiver through a single HDMI cable. If your TV and receiver both support HDMI ARC, you can use the HDMI ARC port instead of the HDMI output.
