Who played the baby on little house prairie?

There wasn't actually a single baby actor who played "Baby" in Little House on the Prairie. Due to child labor laws, several different infants were used for the role over the course of the show.

It's difficult to name all of them, but a few are known:

* Melissa Sue Anderson is the well-known actress who played the character of "Mary" as a child. However, she was *not* the baby.

* A very young Melissa Gilbert (who played Laura Ingalls) did appear as a baby in the show, but not for long.

Because of the frequent changes in the baby actor, it's difficult to pinpoint who played the baby in any specific episodes.
