How did Jake tame a Toruk?

In the movie "Avatar", Jake Sully does not tame a Toruk. A Toruk is a great leonopteryx, the largest flying predator on Pandora, and is considered untamable. Jake rides one during his final battle against the humans, but only after it chooses him as its rider due to his strong connection with nature.
