In J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye," Holden Caulfield does not attend a big football game. Although his brother D.B. is a writer for Hollywood and was once a talented athlete while a student at Pencey Prep (Holden's boarding school), the story does not feature the main character in attendance at such an event.
