Where was greek theatre performed?

In Greece, theatre was performed in amphitheatres. These were open-air theatres which were large enough to hold large audiences and were built in a semi-circular shape. The stage was usually at the centre of the amphitheatre and the audience would be arranged in tiers around it. The amphitheatres were usually located on the outskirts of towns and cities, as the noise from the performances could be very loud and disruptive.
