The original wooden structure was built as the Ilfracombe Public Hall.
1880:
The hall was renovated and enlarged to include a stage, dressing rooms, and a balcony.
1890:
The hall became known as the Ilfracombe Theatre and hosted a variety of performances, including plays, concerts, and variety shows.
1914-1918:
The theatre was used as a military hospital during World War I.
1920s:
The theatre was renovated again and became a cinema.
1940s:
The cinema was closed during World War II.
1945:
The cinema was reopened and continued to operate until the 1960s.
1970s:
The theatre fell into disrepair and was closed for several years.
1980s:
A local group, the Ilfracombe Landmark Trust, was formed to save the theatre.
1990:
The theatre was reopened as the Landmark Theatre and has since become a popular venue for a variety of events.
