- In 1592, the Globe Theatre was forced to close due to an outbreak of the bubonic plague in London. The government closed all public theaters to prevent the spread of the disease.
Puritan Influence:
- In 1642, the Puritan-dominated Parliament closed all theaters in England, including the Globe. The Puritans viewed theaters as immoral and a source of corruption.
Restoration Period:
- After the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, theaters were reopened, but the original Globe Theatre had already been demolished. A new Globe Theatre was built in a different location in London in 1613, but it burned down in 1644 during a performance of Henry VIII.
