Become an extra. Also called background artists, extras make up the scenes behind the main actors in movie and television shoots. Call an extras casting agent or local directors to get started as an extra.
Audition for every indie project you come across. College students and low budget independent projects will crop up everywhere. They tend to not pay any money, but every part, no matter how big or small, will help you build an acting resume.
Act in local theaters. Stage plays are a wonderful way to get acing experience. Audition for everything from community theaters to larger productions in your area.
Take acting classes. Many professional theater coaches will help you hone your acting skills, and it will give you course work to put on your resume. It is also credible to add voice, dance and physical classes.
List all of your talents and special skills. Add anything you think may apply to a variety of projects you may be up for, such as playing the guitar, singing or tap dancing.
Add school productions, if you are just starting out. As you build your acting resume, you can replace these roles with more relevant ones.
