How come in the Phantom of Opera phantom didnt make out with cristine first time?

The Phantom of the Opera never made out with Christine. In the original novel and all subsequent adaptations, the Phantom is a disfigured man who wears a mask to conceal his appearance. He is also a musical genius and a master of illusion, and he uses these skills to manipulate Christine and control her. He does not have any romantic or physical relationships with her.
