Who was portia how did she help antonio?

Portia was a wealthy and intelligent woman from Belmont. She was the wife of Bassanio, who was a friend of Antonio, the merchant of Venice. When Antonio was in trouble because he could not repay a loan he had taken from Shylock, a Jewish moneylender, Portia came up with a plan to help him.

Portia disguised herself as a lawyer and went to the court where Antonio's case was being heard. She argued that Shylock could only take a pound of Antonio's flesh, but not a single drop of his blood. If Shylock took any blood, he would be guilty of murder.

This clever argument worked, and Shylock was forced to drop the case. Portia's help saved Antonio's life, and he was eternally grateful to her.
