Why did Richard Wagner call his works Music Dramas rather than Operas?

Richard Wagner did not use the term "Music Dramas" to refer to his compositions. He coined the term Gesamtkunstwerk, which translates to "total work of art," to describe his concept of an all-encompassing theatrical experience that combines various art forms, including music, drama, poetry, and staging, into a unified and seamless art form.
