How did Alphonse try to cheer up the Frankenstein family after trial in Mary Frankenstein?

In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Alphonse Frankenstein does not appear after the trial. Instead, Victor Frankenstein is the main protagonist throughout the novel. Alphonse is Victor's father and is deceased by the time the trial occurs.
