The famous Ave Maria is not composed by Bach. The well-known Ave Maria melody is based on "Prelude No. 1 in C major "from "The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1.", by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). This prelude was arranged into a vocal piece "Ave Maria" by Charles Gounod in 1859.
