What is the resolution in Phantom of opera?

The Phantom of the Opera ends with the Phantom disappearing after a failed attempt to kidnap Christine. He spares Raoul when he sees him protect Christine and flees the opera. He is never seen again. Christine sings a final duet with Raoul, and the opera ends with the two of them embracing.
