The Tabernacle Choir was founded in 1847, shortly after the Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. The choir's first performance was on July 22, 1847, in the open air at the site of the future Salt Lake Temple. The choir has performed continuously since then, and it has become one of the most recognizable and beloved musical organizations in the world.
