What year did Romeo and Juliet come out to theatres?

Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately unite their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and, along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays.

Romeo and Juliet was written in 1597. There are no records of the play being performed in Shakespeare's lifetime but Romeo and Juliet was first published in a quarto edition in 1597. This edition was published by John Danter, but its title page states that it was "Imprinted by Iohn Danter, and are to be sold by Cuthbert Burby, at his shoppe neere the Royall Exchange." The quarto was reprinted four more times in Shakespeare's lifetime.
