1913: Begins composing songs that will be published, while at the same time working as a "song plugger" for Aeolian Hall Music.

1914-1918: Works as an arranger for Tin Pan Alley publishers.

1919: Releases his first major hit, "Swanee."

1920: Produces his first successful Broadway musical, "La La Lucille."

1924: Writes "Rhapsody in Blue," which becomes one of his most famous works.
