What does tango and claves mean?

Tango

Tango is a partner dance that originated in the late 1800s in the cities of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, the capitals of Argentina and Uruguay. It is characterised by the close embrace of the dancers, who move together in a series of intricate steps. Tango music is typically played on the bandoneon, a type of accordion, as well as the guitar, violin, and piano.

Claves

Claves are a pair of percussion sticks used in Afro-Cuban music. They are held between the thumb and index finger of each hand and struck together to produce a rhythmic pattern. Claves are used to establish the clave, the basic rhythmic unit of Afro-Cuban music. The clave pattern can be played in a variety of ways, but the most common is the 2-3 clave, which is played as "1, 2, 3; 2, 1".
