Denny Doherty (1940-2007) was a Canadian-born singer, songwriter, and musician. He was the group's lead vocalist and played guitar and keyboards.

John Phillips (1935-2001) was an American singer, songwriter, and producer. He was the group's leader and principal songwriter, and played guitar and keyboards.

Cass Elliot (1941-1974) was an American singer and actress. She was the group's co-lead vocalist, and played tambourine and bongos.

Michelle Phillips (born 1944) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was the group's co-lead vocalist and played guitar.
