What are six functions of a greek chorus?

1. Provide exposition: the chorus may comment on the past and offer background information on the characters and their situation.

2. Comment on the action: offer interpretations of the events taking place on the stage.

3. Offer moral commentary: the chorus may offer moral evaluations or advice to characters or the audience.

4. Provide emotional reinforcement: can use their words and actions to reflect, intensify or contrast with the emotions portrayed by characters.

5. Act as a foil to the characters: may represent different values, beliefs, or perspectives than the characters.

6. Link the audience and the world of the play: the chorus is often the only character that directly addresses the audience.
