1. Macbeth. Duncan initially believes Macbeth to be a loyal and honourable subject. He praises Macbeth for his bravery on the battlefield and promotes him to Thane of Cawdor. However, Macbeth's actions after becoming king quickly reveal him to be a ruthless and ambitious tyrant.
2. Lady Macbeth. Duncan is also deceived by Lady Macbeth. He admires her as a gracious and kind-hearted woman. However, Lady Macbeth is actually a cunning and manipulative schemer who plays a key role in the downfall of both Macbeth and Scotland.
