In the theater what is a scrim?

Scrim: A piece of gauze or other thin material stretched across a frame and hung in front of or above a theatrical stage, or between scenes

- can used for several purposes such as:

- create atmospheric and scenic effects when lit

- allow actors to be seen while obscuring some or all details

- project images and videos during the performance as part of the set design
