Othello - What was relationship with before the beginning of play?

Before beginning of the play, Othello was a successful and respected general in the Venetian army. He had a strong relationship with his superior, Duke of Venice, as well as with his fellow officers. He was also well regarded by the Venetian people, who admired his bravery and leadership skills.
