What is a representational prop in drama?

In drama, representational props are objects that stand in for something else. For example, a wooden sword might represent a real sword, or a simple piece of cloth might represent a complex item of clothing. Representational props can help to create a sense of atmosphere and to suggest the setting and historical period of a play without the need for elaborate and expensive sets and costumes. They can also be used to create a sense of mystery or intrigue by hinting at the presence of something hidden or unseen.
