Why did shakespeare write so many romantic tragedies?

Shakespeare did not write primarily in the romantic tragedy genre. While he did pen a few romantic tragedies, such as Romeo and Juliet, he also wrote historical plays, comedies, and tragedies that did not focus on romance.
