What happened to cassidy?

Cassidy, an inmate at the Women’s Correctional Facility, was found dead in her cell on February 10, 2018. She was unresponsive after correctional staff were notified that she was found unresponsive in her bunk bed. Staff responded immediately to the cell, initiating life-saving measures, including commencing CPR and the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). A medical doctor from the facility’s infirmary also responded and continued life-saving measures until EMS personnel arrived. She was then transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Foul play and self-inflicted injuries are not suspected at this time; however, the official cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office at the conclusion of the autopsy. As with any death in custody, the Rhode Island State Police, Office of the Attorney General, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Office of Internal Affairs will investigate the incident. The department extends its condolences to the family of the deceased.
