Is fatal frame a true story?

Fatal Frame is not based on a true story. The game's producer, Keisuke Kikuchi, has stated that the game was inspired by the Japanese concept of "yurei," which are vengeful spirits of the dead. Kikuchi also cited the works of horror author Hideo Kojima as an influence on the game's story.
