In the 1940s in Atlanta, an elderly Jewish woman named Daisy Werthan is no longer able to drive safely and requires a chauffeur. Her son Boolie hires Hoke Colburn, an African-American man, for the job. Hoke is a kind and patient man who quickly develops a bond with Daisy.
