Why does act 1 scene one open with thunder and lightning in Macbeth?

Act 1, scene 1 of Macbeth does not begin with a storm or other adverse weather conditions that you noted. In fact, in most productions and editions of the play, this scene, commonly known as the "witches' scene" opens at nightfall.
