What does endowing mean in drama terms?

In dramatic terms, "endowing" means investing a role or character with certain qualities, characteristics, or traits. Actors create an illusion of reality on stage or screen by embodying fictional individuals and conveying their stories authentically. Actors are endowed by playwrights, theatre directors, or their personal creative choices with distinct attributes, behaviours, motivations, emotions, and other personal and psychological aspects as part of character development. By effectively portraying roles by means of endowment, performers bring dramatic personalities to life.
