What was the first movie that Boris Karloff starred in?

Boris Karloff's film debut was in silent short film called The Phantom of the Opera (1911), in which he portrayed the villainous Buquet, a member of the Paris Opéra's board of directors who is secretly the sadistic torturer of the deformed musician known as the Phantom. However, Karloff's career did not take off until the 1930s when he starred in the Universal Studios horror film Frankenstein (1931), which brought him international fame for his portrayal of the Frankenstein's monster.
